Katamari Damacy

Katamari Damacy is an incredible action-puzzle game for the PS2. The premise and overall concept is refreshingly different, as is the game's style. This is truly a "feel-good" sort of game that you can get hours of light-hearted and uplifting entertainment out of without a lot of fuss. It should be possible for anybody to beat this game without too much difficulty, yet the "high score" nature of it ensures that hardcore gamers will find plenty of challenge in it as well. Overall, Katamari Damacy is simply a gem of a game, and thoroughly worth any gamer's time.

As mentioned, I recently acquired the sequel, We Love Katamari. In my rough estimation, We Love Katamari is not as good of a starting point for players as Katamari Damacy, primarily because it is more challenging and does not have as gentle of a learning curve. We Love Katamari is well-suited to players who thoroughly enjoyed Katamari Damacy and yearn for more of the same, but with a few twists and greater challenges thrown in. Gamers who enjoy more challenging games but do not have Katamari Damacy could well be justified in skipping straight to We Love Katamari.
